Over at GoverningAna, Starla Kaye has a post about her experiences as a spanking story writer. One statement from Starla really stuck out to me:
It always seems that if you mention to someone that you’re a writer, they respond with “I’ve been thinking about writing a book, too. One of these days…” Well, I went that extra step about twenty-five years ago and actually wrote my first book.
As most of you know, in real life I'm a lawyer. Often when I meet people and they find out I'm a lawyer they say something like "I thought about going to law school" or "I always wanted to be a lawyer". It seems like another of those "one of these days I will..." sort of things.
When I found myself saying the same sort of thing to writers, I realized I didn't want to be one of those "someday..." people so I got serious about writing.
What about you? What's your "One of these days I will...."?
Write a book?
Run or walk a marathon?
Play the piano?
Skydiving?
Is 2013 the year that you go from "One of these days..." to "Today"?
My most-used "one of these days" lines comes annually this time of year: One of these days I will start regularly exercising. Yeah, right. But it's tradition now to say that. This year I'm adding "I mean it."

One of these days I will be a runner. Like the crazy, hardcore type, you see running early in the morning. I want to be the loony runner who is running on the ice in the freezing cold. Now THAT is dedication.
ReplyDeleteMe too! We had a blizzard the other day and there was some woman out running. I actually thought she was nuts, but I admired her dedication.
DeleteOne of these days I will paint enough paintings and keep them for a show. I give away almost every one.
ReplyDeleteIt is how I express my love to people.
So I have very few just hanging around! lol
Great idea Minelle. If you scheduled the date a location for a show...you'd have to have some paintings, wouldn't you?
DeleteThat would make it real! lol
DeleteOne of these days I will travel to Australia, take a trip down the Amazon River and see the South Pole. My husband and I have traveled all over the world, but I have not yet done those things.
ReplyDeleteOne of these days I will automatically put things away after using them so I'm not continually tidying up.
I wonder if people tell neurosurgeons...I always wanted to be a brain surgeon.
That putting things away after using them sure seems simple yet I never do it.
DeleteNot so sure about the South Pole, but I'd love to visit Australia too.
one of these days, I am going to be a lawyer. Sorry to say, but that is really true. I have started back to school to finish up my BA and then I will hopefully go to Law School. So I may be in my 50's when I am finally a lawyer, I really don't care. It has been my dream. I put this dream aside to be a mother and wife for awhile. Economically that was the choices that had to be made.
ReplyDeleteOh, and one of these days, I am going to lose weight
Good for you! My mother went back and finished her college degree in her late 40s. Someone said "You'll be 50 by the time you're done" and she said "I'm planning to be 50 anyway, so I might as well be a college graduate too."

What a great blog topic! I think I have a million things on my "one of these days" list, and since having kids, this list seems to grow exponentially on a daily basis. I wish I had more time to dedicate to my review site, I wish I had more time to paint, I'd love a day to spend at my potters wheel (which has seen more dust than clay since I bought it), and - I would love to write a book. I wrote a book (actually it was a compilation of short stories) a few years ago and then completely chickened out when it came time to publish. It scares me to think that a link could be made between me and my pen name and suddenly my friends, family, coworkers would have a key to my kink. So I guess one of these days I hope to have a lot more spare time AND a little more courage....
