In a recent comment on one of my stories, Cara Bristol mentioned the challenge of coming up with new Authentic Spankable Offenses.
I think this both a great phrase (hereafter ASO) and a great point.
I'm far from an expert on Domestic Discipline, but as a writer of DD and general spanking stories, I feel a responsibility to portray spankings which are given for legitimate reasons and which the heroine acknowledges (whether before, during or after) that she deserved.
So...tell me what you think. In your opinion, what are offenses which you think rise to the level of ASO, and which do not? Have you ever been subjected to a spanking that you felt was not an ASO? If so, how did you deal with that situation?
Can't wait to hear what you all think. I know you're out there, so don't be shy!
I'll be interested to see what kinds of comments you get! For writers, Authentic Spankable Offenses are challenging. If the heroine is spanked for an infraction readers perceive as insignificant, they dislike the hero. If the heroine commits an act that really is bad, they dislike her.
ReplyDeleteIt's a slim line to walk!
Cara---so far we seem to be the only ones burning with curiosity over this issue. Maybe the weekend will bring some comments. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteCan't have you going without answers to this question!
ReplyDeleteWe use the 4D's as rules - Disrespect, Dishonesty, Defiance/Disobedience, Dangerous. Problem with this is that so many things can be classified as one of the Ds. I would get a major spanking for something like deliberately not taking my medication properly or not wearing a seatbelt. I don't lie to my husband, ever, not because I would be afraid of the spanking but because I truly respect and love him too much to do so. BUT, failing to tell the entire truth about something is a lie by omission and that would earn a spanking.
I would find a grown woman having a temper tantrum like a 2 year old unbelievable in a story, because I can't think of any woman, DD or not, that would behave that way. Actually, if that's all she did was have a hissy fit, I'd stop reading.
Does that help any?
Thank you Christina! Your answer is very helpful. It seems that one important component in DD is that it be something that the parties have agreed beforehand is an offense---at least within whatever broad categories the couple has chosen.
ReplyDeleteAs far as tantrums go...what about those women on Say Yes to the Dress who go way over budget or who are mean to the bride? Does that fall into the boring hissy fit category or would that be a bigger infraction like disrespect to a friend or not following an agreement about budget?
Definitely a bigger infraction of disrespect to a friend and IN PUBLIC which is worse than in private... LOL
ReplyDeleteGoing over budgets... especially deliberately and without his prior agreement - definitely ASOs!
I think one of the worst things a woman could do is to mouth off to her bf/husband/dom in public. (perhaps becos she knows she has the "freedom" to do so as long as they're not in an area conducive to disciplinary action.) I see many women do it and I wonder how they can get away with it. I would never (and indeed have never) been "rude" or disrespectful to my partner in public. (not that it's acceptable at home, but tempers get lost and arguments ensue and sometimes it just happens... )SO that counts as ASO to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment FA. Not only is mouthing off disrespectful, but I think that it shows a need for honest communication at home that the wife is avoiding by being passive-aggressive in public.
ReplyDeleteNow I have lots of ideas for Authentic Spankable Offenses...I just need to get to writing!
