Take a break from Christmas shopping to discuss some good old fashioned spankings and naughty medical play. Thanks for stopping by.
Tara Finnegan is here to lead the discussion of Sue Lyndon's Her Old-Fashioned
Doctor By Sue Lyndon
#1. The start of Her Old-Fashioned Doctor saw
Melissa walk in on her fiancé while he was entertaining prostitutes in her
home. Wisely (I thought) she got in her car, and drove right on out of town.
Her journey was aimless but opened a whole new life to her. Can you ever
imagine embarking on an aimless journey like that, either to escape what was
left behind or just for the adventure of it? If so, where do you think you
would like to head for first?
#2. Initially, Melissa had pretty much put her
life on hold, pandering to her parents’ and fiancé’s views on what she should
do with her life (which was basically to be groomed into the perfect society
wife, not thinking of her own career.) This pigeonholing for women was
certainly a feature of life for many years. Do you feel it is still a feature
nowadays, and if so how widespread do you think it?
#3. Even from the get go, Melissa and John’s
flirtation makes references to woodsheds, and switches and it’s obvious that
they both have a common interest in D/s. John cottons on to her submissive
desires very quickly, and uses that to encourage her to have a medical exam he
feels she really needs. I found it really hot that he could switch her on like
that, just with words, teasing her and have her comply, and I honestly forgot about
the doctor/patient issue, or whether he might be overstepping any grounds! How
did that make you as the reader feel? Can you switch off the normal rules of
society and ethics while reading a contemporary erotic romance and get into the
moment?
#4. John was one of my favourite type of
dominants – a great mix of playful alpha,
using Melissa’s own desires to create hot but almost playful scenarios, but then
when the time warranted, he was more than ready to deliver as the strict Dom. Do
you prefer strict, playful or a mix in your fictional Doms?
Blurb:
After she catches her fiancé cheating on her,
Melissa packs a suitcase and sets out on a road trip to give herself some time
to recover. But things take an unexpected turn when she rear-ends Dr. John
Holden’s truck in a tiny rural town and he responds by inviting her for an
impromptu dinner date.
The handsome medic’s charm and take-charge manner—not to mention his willingness to spank her bare bottom if he feels it necessary—all combine to set Melissa’s heart beating faster than it has in a long time. Almost before she knows it, Melissa finds herself falling deeply in love with the old-fashioned doctor, even though she’s only known him for a couple of days. But is her rapidly growing crush on John merely a rebound fling, or can his hold on her heart last forever?
Publisher’s Note: Her Old-Fashioned Doctor is an erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, medical play, anal play, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book. This book is also available as part of a five-book collection entitled What the Doctor Ordered.

Hi guys, I loved this book! Typical Sue Lyndon - hot!!! :)
ReplyDelete1)I think I may have done that once or twice but never ran into a spanking doctor sadly. I hope not to have to do it again, but at the start of anything like his, there's a sense of adventure, even if it is hidden beneath layers of pain.
2)I think there are cultures who do this more than others but even within our own westernized families/communities, to some extent, this is still there I believe. I hope not to be repeating it with my own daughters, but this is not a thing of the past IMO.
3) Yes, absolutely! For a well told story, I can easily suspend my disbelief and enjoy the developing romance and this certainly had it.
4) I have a thing for strict Doms, I admit it! But a dom who can be as playful as strict only shows how truly dominant he is. This is something I feel like I've learned in real life in my interactions with men over the last few years. Real dominants are some of the sweetest men out there. The dominance is just an under layer - does that make sense?
Thanks very much to Tara, Sue and Celeste!!
"real dominants are some of the sweetest men out there" - That's so true! Thanks for stopping by, Natasha! :)
DeleteThese are great questions! I loved this book and John was the perfect Dom for Melissa to run into. Okay, getting to the questions-
ReplyDelete1. I think I thought about wanting to do this from time to time, but I am kind of a chicken- I would need someone to go with me. And I don't even know where I would go.
2. I think it definitely still happens, maybe not to the extent it does in other cultures- like Natasha said. I just think women in general get picked on a lot. Men and women are just viewed differently by society and for whatever reason people think they have the right to have opinions about what a woman should be doing with her life, where she should be working, when she should get married, when she should have kids, when she should put the job on hold for the kids- men don't get that.
3. I actually expect to suspend my belief, but it has to make sense in the story and there has to be trust established between the characters for me to believe it.
4. I like a mix. I like some light hearted moments mixed with the serious, but I also love the strict, serious parts. I want it all, and this fantasy dom should deliver and read my mind.
Your #2 is so right on. I feel like women are expected to fulfill too many roles these days, and switch from one to the other just like that, at least compared to men. It makes for a stressful situation sometimes. Thanks for stopping by, Casey!
DeleteGreat questions, Tara! Thanks for having us again, Celeste! :)
ReplyDelete1. I find driving around on a road trip to be very therapeutic. I love long car rides by myself too. There have been a few times in my life when I've just wanted to drive away... so I guess this is where Melissa gets her idea, LOL! She sort of thought she'd end up at her family's vacation house in FL, but of course once she meets John that doesn't happen.
2. I think this can definitely still happen in our culture, though it's getting rarer and rarer.
3. I usually have no problem suspending my disbelief...I don't always expect characters to behave the way the average real life person would in a given situation. It's fun to think 'what if' and just enjoy where the story is going.
4. I really like a mix of playful and strict in my doms.
