#Spanking Stories Book Club: Correcting Kathy by Patricia Green

We're moving at a faster pace now that we have switched to a new book every week. I hope I can keep up with the schedule (which I set). But, that means we get to talk about more books.

This week, it's Correcting Kathy by Patricia Green.

Product DetailsBlurb: Kathy would never have imagined that one of the most embarrassing moments of her life could make her the envy of every girl at her small university, but after a stumble in the cafeteria leaves her blushing and Hal Emory drenched in soup, she is stunned when the incident ends with her meeting the young, handsome professor for dinner.

She is even more taken aback by the fact that he does not hesitate to lecture her over dinner about her smoking—a habit she has tried many times to break without success. When he offers to help her quit by means of “aversion therapy”, she cannot resist the urge to learn more, and almost before she knows it she finds herself bent over the desk of this stern professor for a good, hard spanking.

After a subsequent chastisement leads to lovemaking which is as hard and hot as it is unexpected, both Kathy and Hal must decide if they want to pursue a romance. Can Hal leave the pain of the tragic death of his wife in the past and allow himself to fall in love with Kathy? Even if he does, will she be able to accept not only his love but also his guidance and, from time to time, his firm hand applied to her bare bottom?

There are so many spanking books out there, sometimes it seems difficult to do something that hasn't already been done. One of the things I liked about Kathy was that she always wore some sort of holiday themed panties. It was cute and showed her quirky side, but also her innocence. If she'd been wearing a thong or something lacy, it would have given a different perspective on her, so kudos to Patricia Green for creating a fun quirk that I haven't seen before.

Another thing I liked about this story is that Hal goofed up a couple times and Kathy, though much younger and less experienced, gave him quite the set down. It was fun to see the dynamic move back and forth between them.

You know I love a good professor story. I'm not sure why. So that leads to my first discussion question: What is it about professors that makes them so appealing as heroes? I know it's not just me, so time for the rest of you to 'fess up.

Bonus points: Tell us about the professor/teacher you had a crush on. And don't pretend that never happened to you, because I know it did.

Second discussion question: The first time Kathy gets spanked, she lays across Hal's desk, lifts her skirt and reveals "skimpy white panties sporting the words 'Ho, Ho, Ho' with small, colorful Christmas trees dotting the seat. When Kathy got dressed that morning she certainly had not been anticipating a spanking. Has this sort of thing ever happened to you? Maybe not Christmas panties, but you know, those less than sexy panties you put on when you don't think it will matter?

I thoroughly enjoyed Correcting Kathy and I hope the rest of you did too.

  1. I have never had a crush on a professor, but I can understand the attraction. College coeds are new adults, wanting to FEEL like adults, and professors wield influence and power. Women are attracted to powerful men. Didn't Henry Kissinger say power was he ultimate aphrodisiac?

    1. I think he did, which is ironic since he was hardly a sexy man. I guess he knew how to wield his "power". :)

Interesting point about new adults and wanting to feel like adults. There's also the new freedom of being at college and being on your own for the first time.

    2. It's true, Cara. Women are attracted to powerful men. I can think of any number who, on the basis of their physical attractiveness, would never make the grade if they hadn't amassed power. What I find interesting is the way men aren't necessarily attracted to women in power. That dynamic might be changing, but it's a very slow process.

  2. Thanks for putting my book under the microscope today, Celeste. I can honestly say it's comfy here in the petri dish. :)

One of the problems with Kathy's crush is that Hal is also the most popular professor at the small college she attends. She's sure, after making quite the scene with her clumsiness, that he'll have nothing but disdain for her. When he doesn't she's even more flustered than ever.

I never had a crush on a college professor, but like all men of authority, they have a certain panache that can't be overlooked. There is something about a stern look that curls my toes.

    1. Yes, the stern look will do it. Plus, I get turned on by smart guys.

    2. Me, too, Celeste. My husband is the smartest guy I know and that keeps me a melted marshmallow all the time.

  3. Since I married a professor, I can definitely say a well-educated man is a powerful turn-on for me. I liked Hal because he was quick, smart and had a wicked sense of humor. I admire all of those qualities in a person whether male or female. Hal was also a moral man, yet sexy as sin, and that turned me on. I'm not sure I would have had enough temerity to request a spanking from him, like Kathy finally did. But if we were both single and available, and I felt the only way I could keep his attention would be through a disciplinary relationship, I might have found enough courage to accept his offer. I might even take up smoking so he'd make me an offer. Great story, Trish.

    1. Heehee. That's a funny idea for a story---someone who goes around taking up bad habits in order to get a spanking. A nice staid woman suddenly starts smoking, driving recklessly without her seatbelt, drinks too much etc.

Kathryn--was your husband a professor of yours?

    2. Thanks, Kathryn. I think the smarter a woman is, the more she's attracted to a man she thinks might be smarter. Like most women like men taller than they are. Or richer. Definitely richer.

I think, in Hal's case, smoking was a big no no and Kathy was lucky she only got a few spankings because of it.

  4. Loved this story. I never had a real crush on a professor, although there was one I loved as a professor and took all his classes. He had a great sense of humor (I saw him on the first day of class sitting cross legged on the table smoking a cigarette under a no smoking sign) and yes, he was super smart. That and a sense of humor are the most attractive qualities to me. So yes, Hal was a dreamboat. In fact, I may have been thinking of my professor when I read this story. LOL

  6. I'm glad the story entertained you and brought back a good memory or two, Jenna. I was really going for a high humor quotient with this book, so it's great that you saw Hal's sense of fun.

Sounds like you had one rebel of a professor when you were in college. Those are the ones that hold our attention long enough to really impart some knowledge.

  7. I'll take on question 1... Why do we find them so appealing? It is the classic power dynamic. The powerful professor, the awestruck coed. He has something to give and she has something he can give.

He is in charge, everyone is focused on his every word as he lectures in the front of the class. He has rules and there are consequences when those rules are not followed. Then we add the classroom environment. There is are desks, what better to be bent over? And there are implements... pointers, rulers, the professors firm hand.

Add in a young hot co-ed who is awe struck and hangs on his every word and fantasizes about being with this powerful man.

    Yummy...

Here is the science behind it. Wait! Hear me out on this before you tune out the physiology lesson. Lets examine why these powerful men keep falling into this power trap? Wether they have a HEA or end up in an impeachment hearing or senate investigation. Think about politicians (remember slick willy?), military leaders (Gen. Patreas, and college professors (Patricia's dear Hal).

Power increases testosterone levels in both men and women just like sex. The increased testosterone then increases dopamine activity in the brains reward center. That's why we want more... More sex, more reward, more power, more reward, exerting power during sex even more reward!!!

On the other side of the coin, submission, a forbidden liaison, the thrill of a spanking or being dominated, pain and sex all release both adrenaline = excitement, endorphins = happy hormones that make us feel good.

That is why we see this power dynamic over and over again.

Did I bore you with the biology? Was I too clinical? If so we can just take in Correcting Kathy for what it is a sexy read with a HEA.

  8. yeah, it's the power dynamic, and Cara's right-- raging hormones at an age where you're just coming into your sexual power...

I was attracted to all my male professors in a certain way, but there's this one who was brooding and handsome and a total jerk, but he still made my toes curl.

    1. Yes---brooding is a turn on for me, too.

Plus, Professors often have interesting experiences that they share with the class and for a student who is just getting out in the world, those things can make the professor seem more exotic.

    2. It seems like all my male professors--the ones I enjoyed as people--were gay. To dream the impossible dream!

      Thanks for commenting, Renee.

  9. It is definitely the power dynamic isn't it? I didn't have a crush on a professor, however I did a Dean of a school where I worked. He did threaten my behind. I was being a total brat....
    Sooooo..... get that dynamic!

    1. Sounds like you had an exciting job! :) So many of those kinds of playful comments by bosses, co-workers, department heads, are lost today because of harrassment suits. I don't know if that makes the workplace better or not. I'm glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

      Thanks for commenting!
