#SpankA2Z D is for...

Dog!

My aDorable Dog Dooley.

Waiting for me to come home. Who said you could get on the couch?

Is that a handknitted sweater made especially for you, Dooley? Why yes it is.

My husband and I found Dooley at the local pound a few months after we got married and he's been a wonderful addition to our family. He's calm and good natured (except during thunderstorms when he quivers and no amount of singing will calm him down. Or maybe my singing makes him quake.).
Since we've moved in with my parents he has become my father's lap dog and shares toast with my mother. I'm a firm believer in the benefits of pet ownership, especially for the elderly. I'm also a pretty staunch advocate for adopting dogs vs. buying from breeders. There are so many wonderful dogs out there looking for homes...

  1. Dogs! A wonderful choice for D's. I've had wonderful dogs in the past, now it's three cats, but I do agree with you about pets in general. Dooley looks like a beauty.

  2. Hang down your head, Dog Dooley...(ignore the rest of the rest of the song--it's sad). I'm a big proponent of adopting from shelters too. I got my cat at a shelter.

  3. Aww! I love him! We have three adopted cats. I say we collect them. But I draw the line at three! Give Dooley some ear scratches from me :)

  5. He is such a sweetie! I agree with you about pound dogs, Hundreds of thousands of dogs are put down in Ireland alone every year for want of adoptive parents and yet purebreds get sold for €700 only to be handed over to a shelter when they become a pest and chew things. So sad.

    1. Exactly! I used to work at a shelter and it was heartbreaking at times. Puppies are cute, but I'm a fan of adopting older dogs---let someone else train them. :)

  6. Very creative. I am not a big fan of pets but I think that I could really enjoy your dog. Our dog is a Jack Russell. She is 12 years old and is finally settling down. She was a great dog for the kids when we got her as a puppy. Now she is my kind of dog

    1. I think Dooley might be part Jack Russell. Puppies are great for kids, but I agree w/you about an older dog. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. He's living the high life now, that's for sure. Lots of snacks and attention. I guess that's what we all want, isn't' it? LOL

  8. Your dog looks wonderful and he's found a perfect home I think. I would love to have a dog again (we only have them so short don't we) but it is not possible right now. I miss it. Thank you for coloring my day.

  9. Aww. He's adorable. My cat, Tara, who died two years was TERRIFIED of thunderstorms. Even now when I hear thunder, I get a sudden panic and then remember that it doesn't matter any more. Tara's sister Corrie who is still with us (and will be 20 years this month) is totally deaf so thunderstorms are nooo problem for her. Fireworks used to freak Tara out as well. Does Dooley hate fireworks?

  10. Yes, he hates fireworks and now I sort of do too because they upset him so much. I know what you mean about anticipating their reaction. Now I watch the weather report and try not to leave him home alone during a storm if I can help it.

20 years old for a cat. That's impressive.

  11. We have no pets (I won't allow it) but did grow up with a couple of cats.

My parents loved pets, and my sister too: I appear to have missed that gene!

  12. so sweet, Celeste! :)
We used to have two beagles. Our first "children". Alas, they are now in doggie heaven.
About fireworks and thunderstorms: ours were terrified of them :(
