Spanking Stories Book Club---Wren's Redemption by Katherine Deane

Welcome! Get yourself a cup of coffee or glass of wine and join the conversation. It's been a few months since we've gotten together to talk about spanking books and I've missed you!

Today we're discussing Wren's Redemption by Katherine Deane.

Nineteen-year-old gymnast Wren Montgomery was America’s golden girl, but then it all came crashing down. As far as the media is concerned, it was a devastating ankle injury which began her downward spiral, but in her heart Wren knows better. The truth is that things started going wrong the day her beloved coach Jonathan Reilly not only rejected her romantic advances, but actually spanked her bare bottom as if she were a silly little girl when she tried to hide her heartbreak behind an angry outburst.

Now at twenty-two, after one poor decision after another Wren has become the “bad girl” of the gymnastics world. Desperate to break out of her slump and with nowhere else to turn, she decides to accept help from the best coach she ever had… the same man who spurned and then spanked her years ago.

Jonathan watched Wren’s fall from grace, and he fell with her. He still blames himself for leaving the team—and more importantly, leaving her—and now that he has the chance to help his little rebel get back on track, he isn’t going to let it slip through his fingers. This time he’ll be there for her no matter what, both when she needs a loving embrace and when she needs a firm hand applied to her bare bottom. Most important of all, if she still wants him to be more than just her coach, this time he won’t let anything keep him from claiming what is his.

Points for Discussion

1. Were you ever a competitive athlete? How do you think your performance or interest in the sport would have been enhanced if you'd had a sexy coach who spanked?

2. When Jonathan begins spanking Wren as part of her training, she wonders if he's spanked other girls, particularly other gymnasts. Would that matter to you?

3. Jonathan incorporates spanking at the beginning of each training session to calm and focus Wren. What do you think? Is this sort of maintenance spanking effective for you? How do you feel about maintenance type spankings in books vs. disciplinary or sexy spankings?

4. There are a couple situations where Wren withdraws from Jonathan based on things other people tell her or when she peeks at his text messages and jumps to conclusions. Rather than asking Jonathan, she makes assumptions which lead to problems between them. Do you find this sort of behavior by a heroine annoying or is it simply human behavior?

5. Purple hair----fashion statement, emotional statement, or just a silly idea?

  1. holy cow, these are fantastic questions, Celeste. I might stop back in later and answer some of them myself. ;)
and btw, a huge YES to purple hair. If I thought I could pull it off, I totally would dye it.

    Thanks again!

    1. Happy to have you here. I'd forgotten how much fun we have at SSBC.

  2. Great questions! I haven't read this yet but it's on my Kindle and calling my name!! Can't wait to dive in!

    1. LOL no. Me and sports have never gotten along. Though there was that god awful year my mother insisted I play volleyball. All the other players hated me because I sucked so bad. But maybe if I'd had a sexy coach with a penchant for spanking things would have been, ahem, different.

    2. I would probably be very jealous at the thought.

    3. Mmmm....I love maintenance spanking. It's just very sexy to me and yes, it's calming and I could see how it could work in sports training.

    4. Haven't read the book yet so I can't say...

    5. LOL hmm... I think it looks great on other people. My hairdresser once tried to put a purple streak in my hair and I'm like "No, stop, I'm not that sassy, I could never pull it off!" LOL Katherine I could totally see you with purple hair though! ;)

Have a great weekend, everyone! :)

    1. A friend of mine got a color extension in her hair. If you didn't like it, you could take it out.

I'm thinking purple could work for you. Maybe lavender for starters. :)

    2. I like the extension idea. That would be a good way to try something on without a big commitment.

    3. mmm, I love maintenance spankings too! and the extension idea is a great one.
      ;)

  3. Such a great book!

    1. Absolutely not! I don't have an athletic bone in my body! That's why I always tend to have athletic friends. I can live vicariously through them! NOW if I had heard that there was a sexy coach giving out spankings I would have signed up in a heart beat. No joke!

    2. In her position it absolutely would have bothered me. She has feelings for him & if that were me I would feel bad if he was off spanking every gymnast he trained. Now if there wasn't a deep romantic connection I wouldn't mind a bit!

    3. I love maintenance spankings. They work really well to calm my nerves and reduce anxiety. I tend to be very focused afterward. I thought it was pure genius on Jonathan's part! Hmm, now I'm craving a maintenance spanking!!

    4. I get frustrated at heroines in a good way when reading this type of thing. It is totally human nature and we all do it! Things would be so much simpler if we didn't get in our own way!!

    5. I get why Wren did it. It was a huge rebellion and screw you to everyone who was judging her. At her age I might have done it too! LOL probably not though. I don't have the personality to pull off purple hair.

I just have to give a special shout out to Granny in this story! She was SUCH A HOOT!! I got a real kick out of her!

    1. Oh yes, great point about Granny. She was wonderful.

So, if you couldn't pull off purple hair, is there a color you could "pull off"?

    2. Brown haha! I've thought about getting a Turquiose streak. I'm probably too introverted/non-risk taking to ever do it. What about you?

    3. I'm a redhead, so that's pretty exotic as far as I'm concerned. :) But, I do like lavender hair, like Kelly Osborne's. Not sure it would suit me, though. Maybe a blonde streak...ohh, edgy!

    4. I loved Granny too! thanks. :) I had more jokes for her, but decided to leave her a bit lower key. thanks!

I would love to do a turquoise or lavender streak!

actually, I would really love to do the whole thing, like a soft lavender, but since I don't wear much makeup, I think it might be hard to pull off.
If you guys go first, I'll join in!

      Thanks!
      ;)
